Kevin Feige Explains Why Sadie Sink Landed Her Mystery Role in SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY
Marvel fans have spent a long time trying to crack one of Spider-Man: Brand New Day's biggest mysteries: Who exactly is Sadie Sink playing? Rumors have mostly pointed to her playing Jean Grey, and now Kevin Feige has finally shared what led Marvel to cast the Stranger Things star in the first place.
During a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Feige and Amy Pascal talked about bringing Sink into the latest Spider-Man adventure, offering a little insight into Marvel's decision-making process while still keeping her character under wraps.
Feige explained that everything started with Peter Parker's journey, saying: “We had a story for Peter, and as Amy’s saying, it’s always about Peter. It always starts with Peter and ends with Peter. We had a Peter story that we wanted to tell, and knew that there were a number of characters that could fit into that.”
While Marvel had several possibilities for who could fill that role in Peter's story, Feige revealed that Sink ultimately became the deciding factor.
He added that Sink’s name “solidified the idea of the character that she’s playing.”
It's an interesting reveal, especially since it was previously reported that Sink didn't even have to audition for the part. Marvel already knew the story it wanted to tell, but once Sink entered the conversation, the specific character apparently became clear.
You’ll all find out soon who exectly she’s playing and some of you might already know. Personally, I liked what they did with her character, and she has an interesting story arc and motivations.
Tom Holland has already made it clear that Sink leaves a huge impression in the film. He couldn't stop praising his co-star and even teased that audiences are in for something special when the movie reaches its final act.
“There’s one with Sadie Sink, who’s making her MCU debut. She handled the pressure of the character that she’s playing with such grace, and the third act, she steals the movie. It is so good.”
That's certainly a strong endorsement from Spider-Man himself, and it's only adding more fuel to the anticipation surrounding Sink's debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and stars Holland, Sink, Zendaya, and Mark Ruffalo. The film premiered at the Dolby Theatre on July 27, 2026, and swings into U.S. theaters on July 31.
