Kevin Feige Says Marvel's FANTASTIC FOUR Movie Won't Be an Origin Story

During the Marvel Studios panel at Comic-Con, Kevin Feige announced that Fantastic Four will launch the MCU’s Phase 6. We know nothing about the film, we don’t know who will star in it, but now we know that it won’t be an origin story.

During a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter Feige shared: "A lot of people know this origin story. A lot of people know the basics. How do we take that and bring something that they've never seen before. We've set a very high bar for ourselves with bringing that to the screen."

I’m totally cool with Marvel skipping out on the origin story for Fantastic Four. Ant-Man director Peyton Reed previously pitched an idea to Fox for a story that was set in the 1960s, involved the Quantum Realm, and possibly The Black Knight. He explained:

“Visually, one of the things we always talked about – and this was 2003 – was The Fantastic Four as daytime superheroes. They don’t have secret identities. They’re very much a part of the fabric of Manhattan. In that universe, if you go to New York to the Empire State Building or the Statue of Liberty or the Baxter Building, it was all a part of that. We talked about it being a ’60s period movie, but Fox at the time was not into it.”

I love that concept and I would love nothing more than for Marvel to play with elements of that, especially in a 1960s setting. That would be a ton of fun! Spider-Man director Jon Watts was previously attached to helm the project, but departed it in April of this year. There’s no new director that’s been announced.

What would you like to see from a Fantastic Four Marvel movie?
