Kevin Feige Says the Next SPIDER-MAN Movie Will Tell a Peter Parker Story "That's Never Been Done Before on Film"

With the surprising way that Spider-Man: Far From Home ended, we know that the next Spider-Man movie is going to be unique and different than anything that’s been done before. I love what they did with the ending because it was so unexpected for the character!

If you haven’t seen the movie yet…

At the end of the film, Spider-Man’s identity was revealed to the world thanks to Mysterio, and he was made to look like the big bad villain of the story. During an interview with Fandango, Kevin Feige was asked if Peter’s secret identity being revealed will be a major story arc moving forward. The answer to that question is Duh! But Feige responded with, “I think so.”

That was a huge deal! Spider-Man’s secret identity has never been exposed like this before. Of course this is going to have a big impact on his story arc from here on out! Feige went on to talk about changing the rules of the story and used Iron Man as an example:

"Much like the end of Iron Man, saying, okay, the rules have changed. Which now means we're going to have to do something completely different next time. The how and the when and the specifics can change and evolve, but setting yourself up for something that has never been done before... at the end of Iron Man, it was a hero publicly outing himself so that in the next movies and all subsequent movies, we couldn't fall back on the secret identity trope which had been part of Iron Man's story for decades in the comics.”

He went on to say that the events of Far From Home set up a unique Peter Parker story that we’ve never seen on film before:

"And now people know Peter's identity. People now think he's a villain, Mysterio plays one last trick on him and succeeds... [so that] means everything's different. Where it goes, we'll see. But it's exciting that it once again sets us up for a Peter Parker story that has never been done before on film."

It’ll be interesting to see where the next film takes Peter on his journey. I imagine it’s not going to be an easy one for him. I’m really hoping that Kraven the Hunter comes after him because that would make for an awesome story! Director Jon Watts has said that he would love to bring him in as the villain. Nothing is set in stone for who the villain is yet, though. When talking about the continuing story of Peter, the director said:

“We’re definitely telling the story of this kid growing up, and we end the movie putting him in a very unique spot that we really haven’t seen Spider-Man in before in the films. So, I don’t know. For me, I’ll wait until the next one to start to figure out how we’re going to get to where I want it to end.”

What would you like to see from the next Spider-Man movie? What new characters would you like to see introduced?
