Kevin Feige's Notes on THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 Reveal He Was a Big Fan of Jamie Foxx's Electro

Last week, fans were shocked to learn that Jamie Foxx is going to be reprising his role as Electro in Marvel and Sony’s Spider-Man 3. There’s a lot of speculation of what that might mean for the franchise and if this next film is going to break open the Spider-Verse in the live action films, but as of right now, we have no idea what the creative team is planning!

Well, it turns out that Marvel Studios’ head Kevin Feige was actually a big fan of Jamie Foxx’s Electro in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. So, that being the case, it makes more sense that we are going to see the actor back in the role in the next Spider-Man movie.

Remember that Sony Pictures email hack that happened a few years ago? It turns out that Marvel Studios had talked to Sony Pictures about bringing the web-slinger into the Marvel Cinematic Universe at the time. The emails also revealed that Kevin Feige gave the studio some notes on The Amazing Spider-Man 2 after watching an early cut of it. In those notes he praised Foxx’s Electro.

Here’s what he told the studio:

"Really love Electro. [Feels] like you may not need the scene in his apartment, which makes him [seem] completely crazy and hard to relate too. Like the idea that eel goes in his mouth and instead of burrowing, you see it glow within him."

However, he was not a fan of Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker and says:

"Andrew’s performance is all over the place...a lot of crying and then a lot of mania. Hard to track him emotionally sometimes. It undermines his reaction to Gwen’s death b/c he gets upset and emotional a lot."

Another thing that he points out that he liked about the film was when Aunt May learned her nephew is Spider-Man:

"Like the idea that May finds out he’s Spider-Man – finds his costume instead of just the [Rosemary Harris] wink-wink all the time."

This is an element that was incorporated into director Tom Watts and actor Tom Holland’s recent Spider-Man movies. It’ll be interesting to see how things come together with the third movie, especially with the addition of Foxx as Electro.
