Kevin Smith Introduces the Young and Diverse Girl Gang in New JAY AND SILENT BOB REBOOT Set Video
Kevin Smith has released a new video from the set of his new film, Jay and Silent Bob Reboot, and in it he introduces us to the new young and diverse Girl Gang. This video pretty much focuses on these characters.
There was a Girl Gang in the first movie, but since this is a reboot, they brought in new cast members to play the characters and those cast members include Alice Wen (Mr. Student Body President), Aparna Brielle (A.P. Bio), Treshelle Edmond (Master of None), and his daughter, Harley Quinn Smith (Yoga Hosers).
It would make sense that Smith’s daughter is in the gang considering her mom was a member of original gang in Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. The original crew was played by Jennifer Schwalbach Smith, Shannon Elizabeth, Eliza Dushku, and Ali Larter. Smith explains:
“In Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, we had a girl gang and they were in a van. As you can see, we got another van and we got another girl gang. Essentially Brodie [Jason Lee’s character that originated in Mallrats] communicated that reboots have youth and diversity.”
Smith interviews each of the actresses that play the characters in the movie, and they hinted at what we can expect (and not expect) from the movie.
I also included another video that gives fans a look at the film’s Mooby’s, which is a location staple in the Kevin Smith Cinematic Universe. Smith says:
“This is my fourth Mooby’s in 20 years. Mooby’s is 20 years old this year, man. We first shot the Mooby’s in Dogma in 1999. It’s almost like a returning cameo.
Just like The Simpsons have Krusty Burger, the View Askew universe has Mooby’s, man, and it was delightful to be back in one again, even for a day, man, and it’s gone. It’s so weird, man, I wrote about this for two fucking years, rewrote this scene, rewrote this scene, and shit like that. Then we get here, and you get to see it, absorb it, love it, and then fucking get to work, and then maximize the day and finish it all before you’re done and shit. Thankfully, I have the footage to look at it for the rest of my life and stuff, but this is it.”
The film stars Jason Mewes, Joe Manganiello (True Blood), Craig Robinson (The Office), Frankie Shaw (SMILF), Justin Long (Tusk), and Jordan Monsanto, who is a producer of several of Smith’s film projects, Method Man and Redman. Then there are Flash stars Grant Gustin, Tom Cavanagh, and Carlos Valdes. Shannon Elizabeth (American Pie) and Molly Shannon (SNL) will also be appearing in the movie.
Saban Films picked up the North American distribution rights to the film, which will follows Jay and Silent Bob on a new adventure, one that can't necessarily be classified as a traditional reboot. Smith previously explained:
"If you remember Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, it was a movie in which Jay and Silent Bob found out Hollywood was making a movie about them so they went cross country to Hollywood to stop that from happening. Jay and Silent Bob Reboot is completely fucking different. In Jay and Silent Bob Reboot, Jay and Silent Bob find out that Hollywood is making a reboot of that old movie that they had made about them, and they have to go cross the country to Hollywood to stop it all over again. it’s literally the same fucking movie all over again. It’s a movie that makes fun of sequels and remakes and reboots while being all three at the same time."
The movie is expected to be released this fall. Kevin Smith will also be sharing production video diaries while he’s shooting the film. You can also see the first official photo from the film here.
