KNIGHT RIDER Movie in The Works From COBRA KAI Creators

The iconic high tech spy car KITT is about to make a comeback on the big screen. Knight Rider, the beloved 1980s action series that launched David Hasselhoff into pop culture legend, is being reimagined as a movie, and the creative team behind Cobra Kai is steering the wheel.

Universal Pictures is officially developing the project, and they've tapped Cobra Kai creators Jon Hurwitz, Hayden Schlossberg, and Josh Heald to lead the charge.

According to THR, the trio is in negotiations to write the script for the Knight Rider reboot. There's also a strong possibility that Hurwitz and Schlossberg will direct, having previously helmed two Harold & Kumar films and American Reunion.

If everything falls into place, they’ll produce the movie under their Counterbalance production banner, teaming up with Kelly McCormick and David Leitch from 87North, alongside Gary Barber and Chris Stone for Spyglass.

This marks the second movie outing for the Cobra Kai trio, following their 2021 teen comedy Plan B. Interestingly, before their involvement, Spyglass had announced a Knight Rider remake back in 2020 with James Wan attached to produce, though that version seems to have quietly stalled.

For those who grew up in the '80s or discovered the show through reruns, Knight Rider was created by Glenn A. Larson and ran on NBC for four seasons from 1982 to 1986. Hasselhoff played Michael Knight, a former cop turned lone crusader for justice, teamed up with KITT, a sleek AI-powered car voiced by William Daniels (Boy Meets World).

There’s still no word on casting, plot details, or whether Hasselhoff will be involved in some form. But with the Cobra Kai team behind it, fans can probably expect a fun blend of nostalgia, action, and a modern twist on a cult classic.
