KPOP DEMON HUNTERS Animated McDonald's Short Released as Fans Wait for Sequel

The hit animated film KPop Demon Hunters is keeping the energy alive with a brand-new short that throws Rumi, Mira, and Zoey into a fun, real-world crossover.

After dominating 2026 by winning “Best Animated Picture” and “Best Original Song” at the Oscars, the franchise has fans hungry for more.

While the sequel is officially in development, it isn’t arriving anytime soon. That said, this new animated short gives fans a quick fix and a reminder that Huntrix is still very much in the spotlight.

The short was created as part of a collaboration with McDonald's, and it leans fully into the playful tone. In it, the trio takes a break from demon hunting to dive into themed meals inspired by their world.

Here’s how the collaboration meals are described:

“The Huntr/X Meal – A 10-piece Chicken McNuggets meal, complete with a medium drink, Ramyeon McShaker Fries, Demon Sauce and Hunter Sauce. Seasoned with a blend of soy, garlic, sesame and spice, the Ramyeon McShaker Fries are inspired by Rumi, Mira and Zoey’s go-to noodle snack.”

“The Saja Boys Breakfast Meal: A Sausage McMuffin with Egg meal. The breakfast sandwich comes topped with a peppery Spicy Saja Sauce. Hashbrowns and a small soft drink are included in the meal.”

It’s a clever way to keep the brand in front of fans while expanding into something tangible you can actually try. And honestly, it fits the vibe of the series, which has always blended high-energy action with a strong sense of style and humor.

As for KPop Demon Hunters 2, details are still pretty scarce, but the creative team has started dropping hints. Producer Michelle Wong shared what she’d like to explore next, saying:

“I mean, for me, I’d like to explore Mira and Zoey’s background and where they come from. Or even Derpy. More about Derpy and Sussie’s relationship.”

That opens the door to a deeper dive into characters who didn’t get as much screen time the first go around, which could give the sequel a more layered story.

Director and screenwriter Maggie Chang also tempered expectations on when we’ll actually see it, explaining:

“It’s going to be a long wait for anything because, unfortunately, animation just takes a long time. Although this awards run has been amazing and fun, I just can’t wait to dive right back into another movie and to figure something out, you know, for the world to share. I’m sure that’s what a lot of people hope.”

So yeah, patience is the name of the game here.

The good news is that Netflix reportedly has bigger plans for the franchise beyond just a sequel. We’re talking potential world tours, a TV series, and even a live-action adaptation. That means the Huntrix universe could expand in some pretty wild directions while we wait for the next film.

For now, this animated short is a fun little detour that keeps the characters active and gives fans something new to enjoy.
