KRAVEN THE HUNTER Director Says Movie Will "Surprise the Hell Out of a Lot of People"

Sony Pictures has not had the best run with its Marvel movies outside of Spider-Man. Films like Morbius and Madame Web were downright awful movies, and the Venom films are mediocre at best.

Kraven the Hunter director J.C. Chandor hopes that his movie will change things up and deliver a great Marvel movie that fans will enjoy.

Deadline reports that Kraven The Hunter underwent "strategic reshoots" to ensure it will have a higher quality and that the studio executives think it will match the success of Venom.

When talking about the movie, Chandor said: "I'm extremely proud of the work we have all done together on Kraven, and when the movie finally gets its chance to be seen I think it's gonna surprise the hell out of a lot of people.”

Well, we’ll just have to wait and see if he’s right. Look, I would love for Kraven the Hunter to be a great movie! The trailers that have been released make it look like it could be a decent film, but Sony doesn’t have the best track record, so expectations are low.

When it comes to the filmmaker’s next project, he said: “As for what's next for me, as always that's up to the moviemaking gods."

The report goes on to suggest that his next Sony feature is set to be "a contemporary thriller involving the investigation of a death in a moneyed dynastic family."

Kraven the Hunter is the visceral story about how and why one of Marvel’s most iconic villains came to be. Set before his notorious vendetta with Spider-Man, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson stars as Kraven.

In Kraven the Hunter, Russian immigrant Sergei Kravinoff is on a mission to prove that he is the greatest hunter in the world. Taylor-Johnson called the project “a Marvel movie grounded heavily in the real world. We know he is a fierce hunter, a highly trained killer.” He excitedly proclaimed, “F**k yeah, it will be rated R!”

J.C. Chandor is directing the movie from a script by Art Marcum and Matt Holloway (Iron Man), and it also stars Ariana DeBose as Calypso, Russell Crowe as Nikolai Kravinoff, Fred Hechinger as Chameleon, Alessandro Nivola as an unknown villain, Levi Miller, and Catch-22 star Christopher Abbott as the main villain, The Foreigner.

Kraven the Hunter movie in theaters nationwide on December 13th, 2024.
