Kurt Russell Confirms He's In Talks For GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Vol. 2
Not long ago we learned that Kurt Russell was director James Gunn’s number one choice to play Star-Lord’s dad in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. This is something that it seems fans would love to see! How awesome would it be if he were actually cast in the role!?
Russell recently spoke with the Wall Street Journal and was a guest on Wolfpop’s Happy Sad Confused podcast to promote The Hateful Eight. In both interviews, the actor was asked about the reports of him possibly joining the highly anticipated Marvel movie. This is what Russell said on the podcast:
“I literally got a phone call two days ago about this. I’ve never seen Guardians of the Galaxy so I don’t know anything about it. Many times I’ve heard ‘That’s a really fun movie, a really good movie [with] great characters.’ I don’t know it! So, I didn’t realize that [James Gunn] had written and directed it, but we talked to each other on the phone. And I just had to be honest and say, ‘Thank you for considering me, I have to read [the script], and I have to watch the [first] movie because I can’t bring anything for you [right now]. I’ve got nothing to offer here. So, I’m amazed to get asked about this because everybody knows more about it than I do... it’s a little weird.”
I’m sure he’ll take the time to watch the movie now that he knows he’s wanted. Hopefully, he likes it and the script for the sequel is to his liking, because Russell needs to be in this movie! It may not sound like anything is moving forward in his comment above, but he confirmed with the Wall Street Journal that he is actually in talks with Marvel.
“It could be a one line thing for all I know. But yeah, we’re talking about it... there’s just nothing to talk about at the moment.”
He’s joking about the “one line” thing. Of course, he’s going to have more than one line in the movie. This is obviously going to be a major role! There’s no official word on who Star-Lord’s dad will be in the second chapter of the story, but there have been a few rumors and lots of speculation. I'm excited to see who he might actually turn out to be!
Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2 hits theaters May 5th, 2017.
