LaKeith Stanfield Teases He Was Up For Silver Surfer Role in THE FANTASTIC 4
Last week it was announced that Marvel Studios had cast Ozark star Julia Garner in the role of Shalla-Bal who is one of the many incarnations of Silver Surfer from the comics in The Fantastic 4.
The casting caused a stir among fans as some laughed and scoffed at the casting, while others were sparked with feelings of curiosity, and some fully embraced the casting.
Gardner is a very talented young actress and I fall into the curiosity line. I think there’s some really fun and potentially cool here, and it’ll be interesting to see what Marvel is envisioning for the character.
It turns out that another popular actor seemed to be in the mix to play a version of Silver Surfer, and that actor is Atlanta's LaKeith Stanfield.
In a now-deleted post on social media, Stanfield hinted that he was up for the role. Stanfield shared a graphic announcing Gardner's casting, saying he "thought it was going to be me ig." But, the post has since been removed from Stanfield's profile.
Stanfield has a strange working relationship with Disney, having appeared in last year's Haunted Mansion reboot. Stanfield would have made another interesting and cool choice for the role of Silver Surfer, but obviously, Marvel is going in a very different direction.
The movie stars Pedro Pascal (The Last of Us) as Reed Richards, Vanessa Kirby (Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning) as Sue Storm, aka the Invisible Woman; Joseph Quinn (Stranger Things) as Johnny Storm, aka the Human Torch; and Ebon Moss-Bachrach (The Punisher, The Bear) as Ben Grimm, aka the Thing.
The movie is set in the 1960s, and it will be directed by Matt Shakman (WandaVision) from a screenplay by Josh Friedman, who was brought in to re-write the script originally written by Jeff Kaplan and Ian Springer.
Fantastic 4 will hit theaters on July 25, 2025.
What do you think? If you could choose between Stanfield and Gardner, who would it be?
