Liam Hemsworth’s Geralt Faces Transformation in THE WITCHER Season 4 Trailer: “You Are Becoming Something New”

Netflix has finally dropped the trailer for The Witcher Season 4, and it’s giving fans their first full look at Liam Hemsworth stepping into the boots of Geralt of Rivia, the monster-slaying Witcher once portrayed by Henry Cavill.

The trailer teases a darker more introspective chapter for Geralt. This time, he’s not just hunting monsters, he’s on a desperate mission to find his former apprentice Ciri, played by Freya Allan.

To do it, he assembles an unlikely crew of allies including Yennefer of Vengerberg (Anya Chalotra), the ever-loyal bard Jaskier (Joey Batey), and newcomer Regis, played by Laurence Fishburne. Together, they face off against the sinister Vilgefortz (Mahesh Jadu) and his army of dark forces.

Between intense sword fights, eerie wraiths, and Geralt cutting through a giant ogre-like beast, the trailer also hints at the show’s meta transformation with a haunting line:

“The Witcher is in a state of flux. You are becoming something new.” Another voice follows with, “How will you be reborn?” It’s hard not to see that as a nod to Hemsworth taking over the role from Cavill, who departed the series in 2022 after three seasons.

According to the official synopsis, The Witcher Season 4 picks up after the Continent-shaking events of Season 3:

“After the Continent-altering events of Season Three, Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri find themselves separated by a raging war and countless enemies.

“As their paths diverge, and their goals sharpen, they stumble on unexpected allies eager to join their journeys. And if they can accept these found families, they just might have a chance at reuniting for good.”

Season 4’s story clearly leans into themes of change, identity, and the struggle to rebuild in a fractured world, a perfect parallel to Geralt’s rebirth under Hemsworth’s portrayal.

Returning cast members include Eamon Farren (Cahir), Anna Shaffer (Triss Merigold), Mimî M Khayisa (Fringilla), Cassie Clare (Philippa), Graham McTavish (Dijkstra), Meng’er Zhang (Milva), Royce Pierreson (Istredd), and Sharlto Copley as Leo Bonhart, among many others.

With two more seasons confirmed, Season 4 is set to be the penultimate chapter in Geralt’s saga, paving the way for the series’ grand finale in Season 5. I’m still not sure Hemsworth’s take on Geralt is going to land with fans, but we’ll see. He definitly feels like the dollar store version of Cavill, but maybe he’ll surprise me.

The Witcher returns to Netflix on October 30, and this new chapter promises a deeper, more dangerous world for Geralt and his allies.
