Liam Neeson Is Not a Fan of Superhero Movies and Says They All Tell "The Same Story"

Liam Neeson has had some fun playing in the superhero genre over the years with movies such as Darkman and Batman Begins. But, the superhero movie landscape has changed so much since those films, and while the actor admires them, he’s not a fan. He feels like they all just tell the same story. While talking to Rolling Stone Neeson explained:

"I'll be honest: All these superhero movies? I'm not a fan. I'm really not. I admire them because it's Hollywood with all their bells and whistles and technology, which is phenomenal, but they all seem to me to be just the same story. You can say, 'OK, you did do Chris Nolan's.'"

Nolan certainly did play a role in paving the way for the superhero films being made today with his Batman trilogy, and when the outlet pointed that out to Neeson he said:

"You took the words right out of my mouth. They had a noir feel to them. And Chris Bale and Gary Oldman? Come on! What a cast. And Michael [Caine] and Morgan [Freeman]? My god!"

While Neeson did enjoy his time working with Nolan in Batman Begins, don’t expect Neeson to return to the DC world. He said:

"'Would I play a villain in the latest reincarnation of Batman?' No, I've already done that in Batman Begins with Christian Bale. I was Ra's al Ghul. He wasn't really a bad guy. He was trying to reorganize the world as it needs to be organized."

I totally understand what Neeson is saying about how all these superhero movies are telling the same story, but I do want to point out that after he made Taken, he starred in a lot of similar action films, where he played a similar character, that also told similar stories, and he’s still making those kinds of movies! It’s interesting that he’s ok with those, but not ok with the superhero films.

Regardless, Neeson would be interested in returning for a Darkman sequel if it ever got made! So, that’s a plus!
