Lobo Is Unhinged in New SUPERGIRL Teaser: “I Kill for Money, Not for Sport”
DC Studios has finally given fans something fresh to chew on with a new teaser for Supergirl, and it puts the spotlight squarely on one of the most anticipated characters in the upcoming film, Jason Momoa’s Lobo.
The brief promo offers the best look yet at the intergalactic bounty hunter in action, and if there was any doubt that Momoa was born to play the character, this footage should put it to rest.
Unlike some of the previous teasers that leaned heavily on familiar footage, this new footage unleashes Lobo in all his chaotic glory.
The “Main Man” tears through multiple opponents while cackling like a complete maniac, looking right at home in the middle of the mayhem. The teaser then delivers a line that perfectly sums up the twisted code he lives by: “I kill for money, not for sport.”
The footage wraps up with Lobo casually driving off the edge of a cliff without a second thought.
For longtime DC fans, it’s exactly the kind of reckless insanity they’d expect from the character. Lobo has always been one of the wildest figures in DC Comics, and his history is every bit as disturbing as this teaser suggests.
The cigar-chomping mercenary hails from the planet Czarnia and holds the rather horrifying distinction of being its sole survivor.
Not because of some cosmic catastrophe or alien invasion, but because he personally wiped out his entire species. In the comics, Lobo unleashed mutant scorpion-like creatures on his own people and destroyed the planet simply because he thought it would be entertaining.
That darkly absurd backstory is a huge part of what has made the character such a fan favorite over the years, and it looks like DC Studios isn’t pulling any punches with its live-action adaptation.
Of course, bringing a character like Lobo to life required more than just throwing on some makeup and leather. Momoa recently opened up about the challenges of filming his first action scenes aboard Lobo’s iconic Spacehog, a heavily customized bike equipped with rockets.
The actor previously shared an amusing story about that, saying: “My first day of action was pretty funny. There’s like a fireball up my a**, I have to go and then hit the brakes… It’s very clumsy, with rockets on it, so it can’t do the things you want it to do.”
Supergirl stars Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El and Supergirl, with a screenplay written by Ana Nogueira and directed by Craig Gillespie. The film is set to hit theaters on June 26, and if this latest look is any indication, Lobo may end up stealing every scene he appears in.
DC fans have been waiting a long time to see the Main Man make his live-action debut, and from what we've seen so far, Momoa looks ready to deliver a gloriously chaotic version of one of comics’ most unpredictable antiheroes.
