LOKI Season 2 Producer on That Big Episode 4 Cliffhanger and Teases Show Will Go to Some "Profound Places"

Loki Season 2 has actually been pretty great so far, and I’ve found myself immersed in the story that they are telling with Loki and these other characters. The direction that they’ve taken the story has been interesting and the end of episode 4 was definitely something I didn’t see coming, and it left fans with quite the cliffhanger.

Over the course of Season 2, Loki and friends have been working to stop the timeline-refining Temporal Loom from blowing up and destroying everything. Then, at the end of episode four, they failed their mission, which I totally wasn’t expecting! They weren’t able to save the day, and I didn’t expect it to happen this early in the season. It was shocking, but we’ve got two more episodes to go, and it’s going to be interesting to see how the rest of the season plays out after this huge MCU-changing event.

I love that the show went and did something completely unexpected like this. When talking about the series and pulling the rug out from the audience, Producer Kevin Wright explained:

"It was something we started learning in season 1. This idea of story acceleration. If the season seems like it's going to be about fixing that Temporal Loom, what if that just... breaks right in the middle of the season and everything goes wrong?”

He went on to talk about the cliffhanger ending and teased the series will be taking us to some profound places:

"Not only did it allow us a really great cliffhanger, but where you go after that is totally new territory then. If the first four episodes of season 2 are about things falling apart or not working; choices being made that maybe aren't the right choices, then the back half can really allow us to go to some, hopefully, profound places."

Wright goes on to explain that to "earn the crazy moment, head writer Eric Martin and his team felt a sense of duty to drag the character drama into ‘dire straits’ territory beforehand.” Going forward, “It's gonna be new ground.”

It seems like things are going to get even more interesting! What are your thoughts on how the last episode of Loki played out?
