LOKI Series Producer Says the Plan Is to Eventually Reunite Loki with Thor and Teases a Third Season
I don’t know about you, but I’ve wondered if we would ever see Tom Hiddleston’s Loki reunite with Chris Hemsworth’s Thor. They’ve both been on their own wild adventures, but according to executive producer Kevin Wright, one of the goals of Season 2 was to set up an eventual reunion between the God of Mischief with his half-brother Thor.
During an interview with Variety, Wright was asked whether Loki will ever return to the larger MCU and he replied:
"That's the hope. I don't want to... yeah. I think the the sun shining on Loki and Thor once again has always been the priority of the story we're telling. But for that meeting to really be fulfilling, we have to get Loki to a certain place emotionally. I think that's been the goal of these two seasons."
Loki and Thor haven't shared the screen together since the opening sequence of 2018's Avengers: Infinity War, when Thanos killed Loki in front of Thor. It should be interesting to see these two characters reunite as they’ve changed so much! It would be a whole new dynamic between them what we’ve seen before, and I can’t wait for Thor to show Loki his “Loki RIP” tattoo!
Wright that the six-episode Season 2 will conclude in an "open-ended" way and teases that there could be a third season:
“We certainly did not develop this season going, 'We have to [set up] season 3' – in the way that we did with season 1, where there was a very specific, 'Hey, we're coming back.' But I also think that where this show goes, there certainly can be many, many, many more stories told with Loki in the 'Loki' world, and in other worlds connected to Loki, the character."
In Season 2, the God of Mischief finds himself with a little problem of “time slipping.” The series also stars Owen Wilson, who returns as Mobius, and he will continue to help Loki as they try to figure out what is going on and this leads them to Jonathan Majors as the Kang variant Victor Timely.
The rest of the cast includes Sophia Di Martino, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Wunmi Mosaku, Eugene Cordero, Rafael Casal, Kate Dickie, Liz Carr, Neil Ellice, Ke Huy Quan, and Tara Strong as Miss Minutes, who we see a variant of in the trailer.
The series was directed by Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead, Dan Deleeuw and Kasra Farahani. The head writer of the show is Eric Martin and it’s produced by Kevin Feige, Stephen Broussard, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Brad Winderbaum, Kevin R. Wright, Hiddleston, Benson, Moorhead, Martin, and Michael Waldron.
Loki Season 2 will start streaming on Disney+ on Thursday, October 5th at 6pm PT (9pm ET).
