LOKI Star Tom Hiddleston Shares His Love for STAR WARS and What the Franchise Taught Him

Tom Hiddleston has spent more than a decade playing Loki in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but Star Wars was part of his life long before he picked up the horns and started causing trouble in Asgard.

During a recent red carpet interview, the Loki star was asked how Star Wars influenced the person he is today. The question seemed to catch Hiddleston off guard for a moment, but after thinking about it, he offered a thoughtful answer about what George Lucas' saga meant to him as a kid.

"I love those films. I loved them as a child. I suppose if I’m honest, it’s a very early introduction to moral clarity and the balance of goodness and love in the universe. I guess that's what the force is all about."

That's a pretty great way to describe what made Star Wars connect with so many kids. Beneath the lightsabers, spaceships, strange creatures, and epic battles, the original films presented a straightforward struggle between light and darkness while showing that compassion, hope, and love could make a difference.

Considering how much Hiddleston enjoys the franchise, it's surprising that he hasn't found his way into a Star Wars project yet. Plenty of major actors have joined the galaxy over the years. Hiddleston has also made it clear that he'd be interested in joining them.

Back in 2017, he was asked about the possibility of taking a Star Wars role, and his answer made his enthusiasm pretty clear.

"Goodness, I hadn’t thought of that. I mean, yeah, sure. I’m a huge fan, especially of the first three, because I grew up watching Star Wars: A New Hope, Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi. So, absolutely, yeah. It would depend on the story and the character and things."

Given his range, Hiddleston could certainly have some fun in that universe. He can bring charm, menace, humor, and emotional weight to a character, which leaves plenty of possibilities beyond simply dropping him in as another villain.

For now, though, there isn't any indication that he's headed to the galaxy far, far away. Instead, fans will see him return to the MCU in Avengers: Doomsday. So, for the time being, Hiddleston will have to deal with Doctor Doom rather than a Dark Lord of the Sith.

Star Wars: Starfighter, directed by Shawn Levy and starring Ryan Gosling, is currently the big theatrical Star Wars project on the horizon.

Still, knowing how much he loves Star Wars, it would be pretty cool to eventually see Hiddleston make that jump to hyperspace.
