Lucasfilm Debuts ANDOR Season 2 Footage and a Release Date Window Set for Its Return

During Star Wars Celebration earlier today, Lucasfilm debuted the first footage for the highly-anticipated Star Wars project Andor Season 2. During the exciting presentation that hundreds of Star Wars fans attended today, series creator Tony Gilroy revealed the show‘s upcoming release date window for Disney+ for next year! He said:

“We started shooting in November. We’re halfway [through production]. We will finish shooting in August, a year on post, and we’ll come out in the following August.”

So, Andor Season 2 is set to premiere sometime in August 2024! Yeah, we’ve still got over a year to go, but there are plenty of other Star Wars projects coming that will keep fans entertained. Gilroy also teased the end of the series, sharing that the creative team knows “exactly where we’re going” and that it’s been “creatively potent” to know where the story is going.

“If you know your ending, it really helps. We know exactly where we’re going. You know what you have to deliver emotionally and what the story has to do. It’s a decision borne of survival, but it’s good for us creatively.”

The second season will conclude the series and take us through the years of Diego Luna’s Cassian Andor's journey as a spy for The Rebellion and how he tracked down the secret of The Death Star's construction. The story leads right up to the events of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

As for the footage that was shared, Gizmodo offers details, and it “teased the return of key characters, including Rebel cell members Vel Sartha and Luthen Rael (in and out of his disguise as an antiquities dealer), as well as Syril Karn, who appears to have gone up in the world, and been thrust into a higher class of Imperial citizenship. Scenes also showed Mon Mothma slowly building alliances, trying to bring her disparate senatorial and rebellious worlds together as dissent grows across the galaxy. Several shots showed a protest being policed by Stormtroopers, where violence breaks out with lots of explosions and lots of chaos. But at the heart of it all was footage of Cassian, both skulking through hallways and seemingly coming into his own as a Rebel spy. The trailer concluded with Luthen echoing his comment from season one—“Don’t you want to fight these bastards for real?”—over a shot of Cassian, dressed up in a fancy suit with his hair slicked back, in some kind of fancy bar.”

One day the rest of us will get to see this footage for ourselves, but for now, this is all we get, unless you were lucky enough to be at Star Wars Celebration to see it live for yourself!

The first season of Andor was incredible, and I’m so pumped up about watching the story continue to play out over the course of Season 2. It's pretty funny how fans were initially not excited about this series at all, and then it ended up being one of the best and most interesting stories told in the Star Wars franchise.
