Lucasfilm May Have Been Planning THE BOOK OF BOBA FETT Season 2 Despite the Series' Mixed Reception

When The Book of Boba Fett premiered on Disney+ in 2021, the reaction from fans was all over the map. While some viewers enjoyed seeing the legendary bounty hunter finally take center stage, many felt the series struggled to find its footing.

In fact, the show's best and most memorable episodes were the ones that shifted focus away from Boba Fett and followed Din Djarin and Grogu’s story instead.

Because of that, it seemed like the series was destined to remain a one-and-done chapter in the ever-expanding Star Wars universe. But according to a recent comment from one of the franchise's actors, Lucasfilm may have been exploring the idea of a second season at one point.

Jonny Coyne, who played Lord Janu Coin in The Mandalorian & Grogu and also appeared briefly in The Mandalorian Season 3, recently spoke at Fan Expo Philadelphia and shared an interesting detail about conversations he had regarding future Star Wars projects.

Coyne explained: "They said they were going to put me into [The Mandalorian] Season 4, and maybe a possible Boba Fett episode as well, and then it all went away. It all went away, and then the movie happened."

It's a small comment, but it raises some intriguing questions about what Lucasfilm's plans may have looked like before the studio shifted gears.

Coyne appears to be talking about discussions that took place after his appearance in The Mandalorian Season 3. If that's the case, he couldn't have been referring to the first season of The Book of Boba Fett. Instead, it suggests there may have been active conversations about continuing Temuera Morrison's story with another season.

Whether those talks ever progressed beyond early development is impossible to know, but it does paint a picture of a very different roadmap for the franchise than the one fans are seeing today.

Of course, a lot has changed since then. Plans for The Mandalorian evolved into The Mandalorian & Grogu feature film, and Lucasfilm's Disney+ strategy has continued to shift as the studio refines its approach to Star Wars storytelling.

At the moment, a second season of The Book of Boba Fett feels like a long shot. The series never generated the kind of fan enthusiasm that helped propel The Mandalorian into a cultural phenomenon, and discussion around the show largely faded after its finale aired.

Still, Star Wars has a habit of revisiting characters and storylines when fans least expect it. Morrison remains a fan-favorite figure within the franchise, and Lucasfilm has never completely closed the door on bringing familiar faces back into the fold.

For now, the only live-action continuation officially confirmed is Ahsoka Season 2, which is expected to arrive in 2027. But if Coyne's comments are any indication, there was at least a point where The Book of Boba Fett Season 2 may have been part of the conversation.
