Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy Confirms Donald Glover's LANDO Series Is Still in Development
Last week, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy shared that after Solo: A Star Wars Story, they will not recast any iconic Star Wars characters again. She explained, “There should be moments along the way when you learn things. Now it does seem so abundantly clear that we can’t do that.”
A lot of fans have been wondering what that might mean for Donald Glover’s version of Lando Calrissian. Lucasfilm previously announced a Lando series, but there really hasn’t been any update on that since it was initially revealed. Well, if you were wondering what the status of that project is, it’s still in development.
Kennedy was recently asked by Total Film about her quotes on recasting implying that we won't see any more characters recast with younger actors. In response to that, she back-tracked a bit and confirmed Lando, saying:
“I never say never. It's certainly not something that we're doing with any intention right now. We're still talking about Lando with Donald Glover, for instance, but I don't think we would intentionally just look back at some of the characters like Luke and Leia and whatnot and decide arbitrarily to do a story. There would have to be a really strong reason why.”
Glover was great in the role of Lando, and it would be great to see that series actually happen. It think it could be something incredibly fun is done right, and with Glover developing it, it should be good!
