Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy Says STAR WARS Will "Go On Forever" if They Have "Good Storytellers"

Don’t expect Lucasfilm and Disney to stop making Star Wars projects anytime soon. In fact, you can just plan on them continuing to expand the franchise forever. That’s right, according to Lucasfilm’s Kathleen Kennedy, the Star Wars franchise could go on forever!

While talking to Variety at Star Wars Celebration over the weekend, she said:

"We're continuing to expand on Mandalorian. Ahsoka is the next iteration of that. And then what Jon Watts is doing with his show. It gives us different places on the timeline to look at, because there is this persistent story of Star Wars. That's what we're building on. So rather than thinking that we're just going to go do a one-off story, we're constantly thinking about what does this really mean inside the long saga and mythology that George Lucas created. So it could go on forever, to be perfectly honest. If we have good storytellers, it will go on forever."

Lucasfilm has been doing some great things with the Disney+ shows and they made a couple of great movies with Rogue One and Solo. They’re currently on a roll with some really good projects, the most recent being Obi-Wan Kenobi. Hopefully, they can keep that up as they continue to grow and expand the franchise as they tell exciting new stories and introduce new characters.

One of the things that the creative team at Lucasfilm is doing is figuring out how to create a whole new saga for fans to embrace and enjoy. She said:

“As we leave the saga, we have all this great, exciting work happening on the television side that informs so much about where we're going. We want to be very intentional about that. And we have great talent that we're working with – people who care so deeply about what the next iteration of Star Wars is and about getting people back into movie theatres, so we can really come out with a bang. That's important to us.

“We need to create a whole new saga. That takes a lot. There's a lot of conversation around that.”

There are big things being planned and developed and the future for Star Wars is bright.
