Lucasfilm Reportedly Renews Kathleen Kennedy's Contract Through 2024
Here’s a bit of news that Star Wars fans are going to love! Lucasfilm has extended Kathleen Kennedy’s contract through 2024. That give her at least three more years as President of Lucasfilm.
For those of you who get lost in the rumors and speculation, you’ve probably heard a lot of people speculating over the past several years that Kennedy would eventually be fired or not have her contract renewed due to the behind the scenes drama going on.
Well, obviously that’s not the case! Disney wants her to stick around for a little longer to run Lucasfilm. You’ve got to remember, regardless of what we think about the movies that have been made under her watch, four out of the five major Star Wars films have grossed over $1 billion each at the box office. Then you also have The Mandalorian, which leading the charge on the Disney+ live-action Star Wars shows, but we can really all thank Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni for that.
News of Kennedy's renewal comes from Matthew Beloni's op-ed newsletter which included the following comment, "Kennedy has a lot of good things happening at Lucasfilm, and I'm told she recently re-upped her deal for another three years."
Lucasfilm is currently developing several live-action shows and there are three films also in development being developed by Kevin Feige, Taika Waititi, and Patty Jenkins, whose project was recently delayed.
No official word has come from Disney or Lucasfilm on Kennedy’s contract, and I’m sure a lot of fans are hoping it’s not true. But, chances are it is.
