Lucasfilm's New INDIANA JONES Series Needs to Follow the Adventures of Ke Huy Quan's Short Round

It was recently revealed that Lucasfilm and Disney have been taking pitches and meeting with writers for a possible new Indiana Jones series for Disney+. A lot of fans like myself weren’t really happy with the idea, especially with Harrison Ford’s Indiana Jones not being involved. Indiana Jones 5 will be the last time that Ford plays this iconic role.

No details were shared regarding what they are looking to do with the series or if it will be a prequel to or spinoff of the film franchise. It could also tie into the upcoming fifth Indiana Jones film. The report also said that Disney is “currently exploring a number of options to keep the franchise going, which could mean a series, new films, other media, or a combination thereof.”

If Disney and Lucasfilm actually do end up moving forward with this project there’s really only one thing they could do that the fans would be happy with, and that would be a series that follows the later adventures of Short Round!

They could bring Ke Huy Quan back to reprise his role and tell some wild and fun adventure stories! The series could fill us in on what happened to him after the events of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, and how his relationship with Indiana shaped his life. The series could show us what became of Short Round, and how he followed in Indiana’s footsteps and became an archaeologist!

The character was explored further in the 1980s Marvel Comics series, The Further Adventures of Indiana Jones. In the comic, he accompanied Indiana on an expedition in the Caribbean sea hoping to find Atlantis, where he ended up rescuing Indiana during a pirate attack. He then returned to boarding school.

Then in 2008, The Lost Journal of Indiana Jones was published, and it says that Short Round actually did become an archaeologist like his mentor, and went even went on a journey to track down the Peacock’s Eye, which was the diamond Indy lost at the beginning of The Temple of Doom.

There’s also a fun Indiana Jones and Star Wars crossover story, Star Wars Tales, in which Short Round and Indiana discover the remains of Han Solo in the crashed Millennium Falcon. Yeah, I know that is obviously not canon, but I just wanted to remind you that the story exists!

I actually like the concept of Short Round following in the footsteps of Indiana and becoming an archeologist. There are a lot of great stories that can be told with this character and to have Quan return to the role would be incredible!

So Disney, if you’re reading this, if you do make this series, have the story center on Short Round! The fans would embrace the hell out of it! I would love to see Quan back in action as Short Round!
