Maggie Gyllenhaal’s THE BRIDE! Described as a “Bonkers” Mix of YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN, BONNIE & CLYDE, and More
Director Maggie Gyllenhaal is breathing new life into the iconic Bride of Frankenstein with her film The Bride!, and actor John Magaro (Overlord) has shared some interesting details in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, and it sounds like it’s going to be a wild experience.
The film “sees a lonely Frankenstein travel to 1930s Chicago to seek the aide of a Dr. Euphronius in creating a companion for himself. The two reinvigorate a murdered young woman and the Bride is born.”
She is beyond what either of them intended, “igniting a combustible romance, the attention of the police and a wild and radical social movement.”
Christian Bale plays Frankenstein’s Monster and Jessie Buckley takes on the role of the Bride. The cast also includes Penelope Cruz, Peter Sarsgaard, Annette Bening, and Magaro, who credited Sarsgaard for connecting him with Gyllenhaal.
Reflecting on the project, Magaro described it as a striking departure from Gyllenhaal’s previous work, The Lost Daughter. “Peter was kind enough to recommend me to his wife for The Bride!, and I had a really good time shooting it last spring.”
When talking about the film’s blend of influences. Magaro called it “a mix of a Fred Astaire-Ginger Rogers movie, Young Frankenstein, Frankenstein, Bonnie and Clyde, and Badlands.”
He added, “It’s just a wild, fun ride. It’s something that people haven’t seen before, and I’m really excited to get it in front of an audience. It’s bonkers.”
I’m looking forward to watching this! The Bride! is currently set to hit theaters on October 3, 2025.
