Major Power Upgrade for Grogu Confirmed for THE MANDALORIAN & GROGU

The galaxy’s most adorable Force user is about to get a serious upgrade. The Mandalorian & Grogu is bringing Din Djarin and his tiny apprentice to the big screen, and it sounds like Grogu isn’t just along for the ride this time. He’s stepping into something bigger, stronger, and way more dangerous.

Grogu has come a long way since fans first met him as the internet’s beloved “Baby Yoda.” Now, with his own movie leading the charge for Star Wars’ return to theaters after years away, the character is evolving in a big way.

After surviving Order 66, training briefly with Luke Skywalker, and choosing to return to Din Djarin, Grogu’s journey has been anything but straightforward. And according to Jon Favreau, all of that experience is about to pay off. Favreau shared with EW‘s summer preview:

“Grogu has… leveled up a bit. We know that previously he trained with Luke Skywalker, so he’s got a little Jedi influence; plus, he’s an apprentice Mandalorian, which makes him very unique. It’s time for Grogu to go out in the field and for Dad to show him the ropes.”

Din spent the early seasons protecting Grogu, but now the kid can actually hold his own. That opens the door for more action, more risk, and a lot more independence.

The trailers have already teased that the duo won’t be glued together the entire time. In fact, there are strong signs Grogu will split off for a side mission involving the Anzellans, those tiny, sharp-witted mechanics introduced in recent Star Wars stories.

They’re known for slicing into droids, which could tie into rumors about a reactivated Clone Wars-era droid army. If that’s the case, Grogu might find himself in the middle of something much bigger than a simple side quest.

There’s also a noticeable The Empire Strikes Back vibe in the footage so far, suggesting Grogu could undergo further training while separated from Din. Whether that means unlocking new Force abilities or refining what he already has, it feels like the movie is setting him up for a major leap.

Meanwhile, Pedro Pascal is clearly loving the transition from streaming to the big screen. He shared his excitement about the experience:

“Jon Favreau is obviously an incredibly talented writer, director, and producer who has experience on both the small and the big screen, and I’d always dreamed of seeing this story and these characters brought to life in a movie theater.

“There definitely was a lot to see and react to when filming, and the sets were unbelievable. Honestly, you feel like you are a kid playing make-believe, only on steroids.”

Plot details are still mostly under wraps, but Lucasfilm has been teasing something much larger in scale. The story is expected to connect to the growing conflict between the New Republic and the Imperial Remnant, potentially setting the stage for future chapters like Ahsoka Season 2.

One of the biggest questions hanging over the film is what new abilities Grogu might bring to the table. He’s already demonstrated rare Force healing, a power previously linked to Rey and Kylo Ren through their Force Dyad connection.

That makes him unique, but his time with Luke could mean there’s more waiting to surface. And if the story puts him through a transformative trial, something similar to Dagobah-style training, we could see entirely new powers emerge.

No matter how it plays out, Grogu isn’t just the cute sidekick anymore. He’s becoming a key player in the future of Star Wars, and this movie looks ready to prove that.
