MALCOLM IN THE MIDDLE: LIFE’S STILL UNFAIR Trailer Brings Frankie Muniz Back for More Family Chaos
Hulu has released the official trailer for Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair, the long-awaited revival of the beloved comedy series. The four-episode limited series premieres on April 10 and reunites most of the original cast nearly two decades after the show wrapped its run on Fox.
This revival looks like it’s bringing the same chaotic family energy that made the series such a classic in the early 2000s. I’m a big fan of the original series, I was even an extra on the show for a while! That was a lot of fun! This revival looks like its going to deliver a good time and I’m excited about watching it.
The new series once again follows Malcolm, played by Frankie Muniz, as he gets pulled back into the madness of his family.
The story picks up years later with Malcolm trying to keep some distance from his chaotic upbringing. According to the official logline: “After shielding himself and his daughter from his family for over a decade, Malcolm is dragged back into their orbit when Hal and Lois demand his presence at their 40th anniversary party.”
Of course, that reunion doesn’t exactly look peaceful in the trailer. It quickly reminds viewers that this family still thrives on ridiculous arguments, disastrous plans, and the kind of wild situations that made the original show so fun.
Jane Kaczmarek returns as Malcolm’s relentless mother Lois and Bryan Cranston is back as the hilariously unpredictable Hal. Chris Masterson reprises his role as the rebellious eldest brother Francis, Justin Berfield returns as Reese, and Emy Coligado is also back as Francis’ wife Piama.
The revival also introduces a few new characters to shake things up. Caleb Ellsworth-Clark steps in as Dewey, the youngest brother originally played by Erik Per Sullivan.
New cast members include Keeley Karsten as Malcolm’s daughter Leah, Kiana Madeira as his girlfriend Tristan, and Vaughan Murrae as Kelly, Hal and Lois’ youngest child who was first revealed when Lois was pregnant in the original series finale.
The revival also brings back the creative mind who started it all. Original series creator Linwood Boomer returns as writer and executive producer. Cranston also executive produces.
All four episodes are directed by Ken Kwapis, who also serves as an executive producer. and the series is produced by 20th Television for Disney Branded Television.
The original Malcolm in the Middle ran for seven seasons and 151 episodes from 2000 to 2006, earning 33 Emmy nominations during its run and winning seven awards.
If you’re looking to revisit the original chaos before the new series arrives, the full run of Malcolm in the Middle is currently streaming on Hulu.
The new chapter of this dysfunctional family begins when Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair premieres April 10 on Hulu. And judging by the trailer, Malcolm’s life still isn’t getting any easier.
