Margot Robbie Talks About Lady Gaga Being Cast as Harley Quinn in the JOKER Sequel

Fans have enjoyed seeing Margot Robbie in the role of Harley Quinn in three DC films including Suicide Squad, Birds of Prey, and The Suicide Squad, but we are going to get to see a different actress in the role soon. Lady Gaga has been cast as Harley in director Todd PhillipsJoker: Folie à Deux.

In a recent interview with MTV News, Robbie shared her thoughts on Gaga taking on the role, saying she's "so happy" that someone else is going to get the chance to play Harley.

"I said from the very beginning that all I want is for Harley Quinn to be one of those characters – the way Macbeth or Batman, always gets passed from great actor to great actor. Someone gets to do their Batman, or someone gets to do their Macbeth...

"I feel like, in not so many cases, are they female characters – Queen Elizabeth I, but beyond that, which I got to have a crack out as well, which I was honored to do. I was like, 'Wow! Cate Blanchett did Queen Elizabeth I. Now I get to.' It's such an honor to have built a foundation strong enough that Harley can now be one of those characters that other actors get to have a go at playing. And I think she'll do something incredible with it."

I’ve enjoyed Robbie in the role of Harley, and I’m pretty confident we’ll see her play the character again. I’m excited to see how Gaga handles the character, though, and I think she’s going to be great!

Joaquin Phoenix stars in the film alongside Zazie Beetz as Sophie Dumond, with Catherine Keener, Brendan Gleeson, and Jacob Lofland cast in undisclosed roles.

All we know about the movie so far is that it will be a musical mostly be set in Arkham Asylum. Also, the film’s working title, Joker: Folie à Deux, refers to the clinical term for the “shared madness,” hallucinations, and delusions of two people.

The movie is scheduled to be released on October 4, 2024.
