Mark Hamill Doubts He Will Voice the Joker Again After Kevin Conroy's Passing
It was a pretty heavy blow to DC fans when Kevin Conroy passed away earlier this year. He was the ultimate Batman, and his performance as the character in Batman: The Animated Series and the various other Batman animated projects was always fantastic!
Then there’s Mark Hamill’s iconic Joker. The two actors had definitive takes on these characters, and they played so well off each other! Well, now that Conroy is gone and their collaborative journey has come to a sad end, it looks like there’s a chance that Hamill may never voice Joker again.
During a recent interview with Empire, Hamill said that he “doubts he'll ever take up the Joker mantle again without Conroy there to trade lines with.” He said:
“They would call and say, ‘They want you to do the Joker.’ And my only question was, ‘Is Kevin Batman?’ If they said yes, I would say, ‘I’m in.’ We were like partners. We were like Laurel and Hardy. Without Kevin there, there doesn’t seem to be a Batman for me.”
Several years ago Hamill announced his retirement from voicing the Joker, but that didn’t last very long. This, however, seems like it could be real. Conroy and Hamill were with each other every step of the way with these characters over the course of 30 years. I know it’s sad to hear, but It might just be that time for Hamill to move on from Joker.
