Mark Millar's NEMESIS Is Going Back into Film Development with the Directors of PROJECT POWER

It’s been over five years since there’s been any news regarding the film adaptation of Mark Millar’s comic book series Nemesis. Joe Carnahan (Smokin’ Aces) was the last director attached to it, but the project never went anywhere.

Well, according to Collider, the directors of Netflix’s Project Power, Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman, are now attached to direct the film, which is still set up at Warner Bros. If you’re not familiar with the comic it pretty much follows a Bruce Wayne/Batman type character, but as a villain.

The story follows Matt Anderson, a billionaire super-villain who is bent on avenging his criminal father by killing Washington DC Chief Inspector Blake Marrow. It's a twisted, violent tale, and this is the description from the comic:

What if the smartest, toughest costumed bad ass in the world was totally evil? Meet Nemesis. He's systematically been destroying the lives of every police chief in Asia, and he's now set his sights on Washington, DC. Between you and me, the police don't have a chance. 

Emerald Fennell (Promising Young Woman) wrote the most recent draft of the script. Miller called the previous script for the film, which was written by Carnahan "relentless and powerful," and Carnahan teased the opening scene in his version of the film saying, "This opening is either going to galvanize the audience or have them fleeing the theater in droves..." I hope that the new script kept that crazy edginess. We’ll just have to wait and see. The comic was great and I hope the film ends up being just as good.

Joost and Schulman got their big break directing the film Catfish. From there they went on to direct Paranormal Activity 3, Paranormal Activity 4, Nerve, and Viral. They’ve made some fun and decent films in their career, and it’ll be interesting to see what they end up doing with Nemesis. This could be their best and most high-profile movie yet.
