Marlon Wayans Wants to Play PLASTIC MAN for DC and Warner Bros.
Marlon Wayans wants in on the superhero movie action, and he wants to take on the role of Plastic Man in the film that DC and Warner Bros. are developing. During a recent interview with ScreenRant, the actor was asked what comic book character he would like to play and this was his response:
"I would love to play Plastic Man. I think he works with the comedic skill set that I have, in terms of how I'm physical, I'm bendy. And I think it'd be cool to just do it without... You know, what's great about Black Panther is he's a black superhero, right? But sometimes [it's fun] to just do something. Like, you wouldn't think Plastic Man was a black guy, but it's not black - it's just, he's plastic. I think it'd be fun for me, because I know I got to add my humor to it. The only two superheroes I ever really wanted to play was Plastic Man and The Mask. Those are the two superhero films I would love to play."
Plastic Man is an amusing character that a lot of DC fans love, and it’s not really that hard to imagine Wayans in the role. I could see him pull ingif off. He’s not the only actor gunning for the role, though! Ben Schwartz is also hoping to get cast. When he was talking about the character, he explained that Plastic Man could be DC’s Deadpool:
“If you look at the original Plastic Man, he’s a thief, he gets these superpowers, and then he uses his connections with being in the crooked world to aid the police.”
“But in my head, how much fun if he was a thief, got superpowers, and was like, ‘Screw it, I want to keep being crooked.’ But he’s also, if you look at the cartoons or the other iterations of him, he’s funny! He’s so funny. And I think what Ryan Reynolds and Tim Miller did with Deadpool, you could have a funny superhero in DC. Shazam! just did it and I think it’s gonna be great. That’s it, I just love that character a lot. I think I’d get to be goofy if I ever got the chance to do it.”
Plastic Man was created by Jack Cole in 1941. He joined DC Comics in 1956, and he was a member of the Justice League. Plastic Man’s real name is Patrick “Eel” O’Brian, he was originally a crook who was saved by Batman from an acid vat. But that vat gave him the powers to bend and twist his body into any form. He’s a comedic character, but beneath his joking exterior, he is a valuable asset in any situation.
Warner Bros. already hired Amanda Idoko (Breaking News In Yuba County) to write the script for the film, so this movie is currently in development.
Who would you like to see take on the role of Plastic Man? Do you think Marlon Wayans would fit the role?
