Marvel Brings Back James Spader as Ultron For VISION Series
Here’s some exciting Marvel casting news for you! Marvel Studios is bringing back James Spader to play Ultron in the upcoming Vision series!
Spader was great in the role of Ultron, so it’s pretty cool to learn that he will be voicing the villainous AI robot again for a new story. He originally played the character in Marvel’s 2015 film Avengers: Age of Ultron.
Spader joins Paul Bettany, who is reprising his role as Vision, the android who formed a strong relationship with the Scarlett Witch and then was destroyed by Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War.
There’s a really interesting story for Vision that was set up in the MCU. After being murdered by Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War, he returned for WandaVision in two forms.
Vision was both a spectral creation by Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) through her grief, and he was also rebuilt as a white android appearance with zero memory of his past life.
By the end of WandaVision, after the two Visions battled each other, Wanda’s version of Vision gave his memories to the new white version, and he just flew off after that. This new series will explore what happened to Vision after those events.
The series does not have an official title yet, but it has been referred to as Vision Quest. It will explore white Vision’s search for a new purpose in life. It will be cool to see how Ultron ends up factoring into the story and what kind of relationship he will have with Vision.
Ultron was a sentient being created by Tony Stark to act as a defense program but it ended up turning against humanity. Ultron then created his own sentient being, Vision, to help in destroying the human race. But, that didn’t go as planned and he ended up helping the Avengers take down Ultron.
The series is being developed by Star Trek: Picard executive producer Terry Matalas will serve as showrunner on the project.
How do you think Ultra will be utilized in the story?
