Marvel Developing VISION Series with Paul Bettany and STAR TREK: PICARD Producer Terry Matalas
Marvel is officially developing a Vision series that will see Paul Bettany return to the role. It was also announced that Star Trek: Picard executive producer Terry Matalas will serve as showrunner on the project.
There was a very interesting story for Vision that was set up in the MCU. After being murdered by Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War, he returned for WandaVision in two forms.
Vision was both a spectral creation by Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) through her grief, and he was also rebuilt as a white android appearance with zero memory of his past life.
By the end of WandaVision, after the two Visions battled each other, Wanda’s version of Vision gave his memories to the new white version, and he just flew off after that.
This new series will explore what happened to Vision after that, and there’s going to be a really cool, fascinating, and complicated story to tell there.
It seems like Matalas is a great choice to take on this story. I love what he did with Picard! There was an earlier version of the series in development with WandaVision creator Jac Schaeffer, but Schaeffer ended up committing his time to the WandaVision spinoff, Agatha All Along with Kathryn Hahn.
When talking about returning to play Vision, Bettany previously said: “At the end of WandaVision, you see Vision fly off and that's a loose end, and Kevin Feige (president of Marvel Studios) is a man who doesn't really allow loose ends.
“So I assume at some point I will be putting on my tights and cloak for another outing, but I don't know when that might be."
Bettany also wondered what his character might look like without Wanda by his side, saying: "I mean, that's the thing, right? I've never had a loved one to lose… I don't know what grief is because I've never had a loved one to lose.
“There is so much to get into with him because it's been ten minutes here, ten minutes there, in the movies. Now we're sort of just starting to sort of peel back some stuff."
This Vision series is the first new live-action series to get the greenlight in almost two years. What would you like to see from this new Vision project?
