Marvel Comics Writer Donny Cates Says Fans Should Want Keanu Reeves in The Role of SHANG-CHI

Keanu Reeves is on the top of his career right now. The fans love him and the studios all want him to star in their movies. One of those studios is Marvel, who has talked to him about about joining almost every film that they’ve made.

There are rumors that he’s up for a role in The Eternals. Marvel Comics writer Donny Cates, who has worked on Venom and Guardians of the Galaxy, recently tweeted something interesting. He says that the role fans should want Keanu Reeves to play is the martial arts hero Shang-Chi.

The now deleted Tweet said, “As someone who spent four hours in a room with Keanu Reeves breaking story, (it’s quite a story) I can tell you the role you want him in is Shang-Chi. Trust me.”

I’m not sure what this all means, or if the writer is teasing that Reeves pitched a Shang-Chi story idea to Marvel, but it’s interesting. Now, while Reeves is of Chinese-Hawaiian decent, I’m sure that if he was cast as Shang-Chi, there would be another character white-washing controversy that I think Marvel would want to avoid again.

But, there could be another character in Shang-Chi that he could play. One thing is for sure, Marvel wants to get him in one of their films and one day we will see him in one.

It was recently reported that Marvel Studios was looking at casting Donnie Yen in Sahng-Chi along with Power Rangers star Ludi Lin. But they are just a couple of several actors that the studio is currently meeting with for the film.
