Marvel Hires MOON KNIGHT Directors to Helm LOKI Season 2

Marvel Studios is getting ready to move forward with Loki Season 2 as they’ve hired Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead to co-direct a majority of the episodes for the upcoming season. The two filmmakers recently directed a couple of episodes of Marvel’s upcoming Moon Knight series. They also helmed episodes of The Twilight Zone revival and Netflix’s Archive 81.

According to the report, production went so smoothly on the Moon Knight episodes that they directed that Marvel wanted to get them working on something else, and Loki Season 2 ended up being that project.

Tom Hiddleston is returning to play Loki, but he is also an executive producer on the project. Michael Waldron, who wrote and served as showrunner in Season 1, will also executive produce Season 2. Eric Martin is writing all six episodes for Season 2.

While there are no details to share regarding the story for Season 2, Hiddleston previously talked about what he’d like to see from the series as it continues. One of the main things he’d like to continue to explore is Loki’s redemptive story arc:

“I understand the audience sees good in Loki — they want him to get past his internal and external obstacles. They want him to repair that relationship with his brother and step into the hero that he can be.

“He realizes, ‘Actually, I can choose my path and choose to do the right thing. Or I choose, at least, not to repeat the same old tricks that I repeated over and over in a cycle of trust and betrayal. It’s exciting to retain all the characteristics that makes Loki, Loki, and at the same time to play slightly different music within him.”

There’s certainly a lot going on in the Loki series. That first season was an absolute trip! All of that is just still sitting there waiting to be explored, especially with all of the Variants and, of course, Kang The Conqueror, who is supposed to appear in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. But he might just show up in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness as well!

I’m pretty stocked to see where the story takes Loki and the rest of these characters in Season 2.
