Marvel May Be Close To Hiring a Director For BLACK WIDOW and Her Name is Cate Shortland

Marvel is moving forward with their Black Widow solo film as they are looking to hire a female director to take it on. The studio is deep in the process, but according to Deadline, they are close to making a decision. Right now the favorite seems to be an Austrailian filmmaker named Cate Shortland. She is recently credited with directing Lore and Berlin Syndrome. I never saw Lore, but Berlin Syndrome was a solid movie.

It was previously reported that Marvel had met with over 65 different directors! Three names were previously mentioned which included Deniz Gamze Erguven (the Turkish movie Mustang), Chloe Zhao (The Rider), and Amma Asante (A United Kingdom).

As for what story the film will tell, nothing has been confirmed, but it was recently reported that the movie might be a prequel story and it would involve Black Widow and The Winter Soldier.

"The film will find Natasha living in the United States 15 years after the fall of the Soviet Union! That timeline places the film firmly in the mid-2000s, meaning we'll meet up with Nat prior to the events of Iron Man 2. That time frame opens up plenty of options, and while many fans seem to want a Black Widow/Hawkeye team up in Budapest, we've been told that early discussions about the film involved Sebastian Stan's Winter Soldier."

That's just a rumor, but it would be an interesting story to tell. This would certainly be Shortland's biggest film to date. If Marvel thinks that she will be able to take on the challenge of directing this movie, then I'm sure it will be good!
