Marvel Moves Forward with THE ETERNALS Movie as They Hire Two Screenwriters

Not long after Kevin Feige confirmed that Marvel Studios was developing a film adaptation of The Eternals, THR is reporting that the studio is moving forward with the project and that they've hired writers Matthew and Ryan Firpo to work on the script. You may not be familiar with these guys, but they wrote a spec script for a film called Ruin that shot to the top of the 2017 Black List of best unproduced screenplays.

The Eternals was created by Jack Kirby and in the comics "the saga of the Eternals began millions of years ago when the cosmic beings known as the Celestials genetically experimented on humans, creating the super-powered and near-immortal beings and a more monstrous off-shoot known as the Deviants. The two races moved behind the scenes throughout human history while also engaging in Game of Thrones-style cosmic powerplays."

It was previously rumored that the story would focus on a female Eternal known as Sersi, who can manipulate cosmic energy to grant herself virtual immortality, invulnerability, and reshape the molecules of other people or objects. A couple of the other characters that the report suggests could be included are Ikaris, who "is fueled by cosmic energy" and Thena, who is "often mistaken for the Greek goddess Athena."

We've previously heard that Marvel Studios was going to launch a big new franchise within their universe and that the next phase of films would focus heavily on the cosmic aspect of the Marvel Universe. So, there's a good chance that The Eternals could be it.

Fan have loved what Marvel has done with their films so far and I can't wait to see what they ended up doing with The Eternals and this next phase of films!
