Marvel Reportedly Has Expressed Interest in Casting Cynthia Erivo as Storm in X-MEN Reboot
Last week, it was reported that Wicked star Cynthia Erivo said in an interview that her next dream role would be to take on Storm in Marvel’s rebooted X-Men.
This didn’t seem like it was too far-fetched, for the rising star to throw her witches hat in the ring, but if the rumors are true, the studio already has her on their radar.
On the latest episode of The Hot Mic (via CBM), insider Jeff Sneider said he's heard that there is "actual interest" in enlisting Erivo to play the weather-manipulating mutant.
The reporter also indicated that he knows about another individual (we're not sure if it's an actor or director) on the studio's radar for the project, but is not revealing that piece of news for now.
Whether Erivo has actually entered talks or is simply one possible contender is hard to say, but we do know that she would jump at the chance to play Ororo Munroe, as she previously stated:
“I really want to play Storm. I know it sounds frivolous, but I think we haven't uncovered how grand she is and all of that inner turmoil that she has, so I think there's a world where we could do something like that."
It was previously circulating that the studio is looking for actors in the early to mid-20s age range to play the MCU's Children of the Atom, which would make sense as another rumored actor on Marvel’s mind is Stranger Things alum Sadie Sink, who has been said to be up for the role of Jean Grey.
Although there's nothing to say that each character has to be the same age, and some members of the team couldn't take on more of a mentor/teacher role.
We will just have to wait and see. Marvel has been keeping pretty quiet about their X-Men movie so far. All we know for sure is that Michael Lesslie is currently working on the script, and a director is their next position to fill. Stay tuned for more updates.
