Marvel Rumored to Have Big Plans for Ghost Rider Beyond the MIDNIGHT SONS Movie
It seems like the Spirit of Vengeance is revving up to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Ghost Rider’s long-awaited MCU debut has been a topic of speculation for years, with rumors swirling about the character showing up in the Midnight Sons movie.
While Marvel Studios hasn’t officially confirmed anything yet, some interesting rumors suggest big plans for the Spirit of Vengeance.
Industry insiders and even Marvel executives like Kevin Feige and Brad Winderbaum have dropped hints that Ghost Rider is on the way. According to industry scooper Daniel Richtman, Marvel’s vision for the character will extend beyond just one project:
He says: “No one has been cast as the new Ghost Rider yet, but he is set to appear in a few projects over the next three years, including Midnight Sons.”
The Midnight Sons movie, which will reportedly focus on Marvel’s supernatural team, and while it’s expected to include Ghost Rider, we don’t know whether this will mark his first appearance in the MCU. Regardless, Marvel seems to view the character as more than just a one-and-done cameo.
One of the big discussions among fan regarding Ghost Rider is if Nicolas Cage will reprise his role as Johnny Blaze. Cage’s eccentric take on the character has become a cult favorite, and recently, Ryan Reynolds confirmed that he tried to bring the actor back for Deadpool 3:
“They were in early drafts. We had versions of that [sequence]... But we did talk to Nic Cage. We tried to get him, but he was a no-go. I would’ve loved him.”
While it’s unclear why Cage turned down the offer, recent rumors claim he may have changed his mind and could return as Ghost Rider in an upcoming MCU project.
One possibility being floated is his appearance in Avengers: Secret Wars. Another, rumor suggests he could show up in Spider-Man 4.
Of course, with so many rumors flying around about these films, it’s wise to take this one with a grain of salt. Still, Cage’s return would certainly excite longtime fans of the character.
While Nicolas Cage remains a fan-favorite pick, Marvel has yet to cast a new Ghost Rider, and speculation about who might play the character continues to run wild. Ryan Gosling’s name was thrown around for a time.
The other question is, which version of Ghost Rider will the MCU even introduce? Will it be Johnny Blaze, Robbie Reyes, or even Danny Ketch? To me, it makes sense to bring in Johnny Blaze because that’s the version the fans want to see in the MCU.
Regardless, if this rumor is true, Marvel’s sees a lot of potential in the character. Who do you think should step into the role of Ghost Rider? Should Cage reprise his role, or is it time for a fresh take?
