Marvel Star Sebastian Stan Talks About Robert Downey Jr.'s Return as Doctor Doom and His Love for the MCU
Sebastian Stan joined the MCU in 2011 in the first Captain America film, The First Avenger. He has played Steve Rogers’ best friend, Bucky Barnes, who we saw evolve into the Winter Soldier along the way.
Since Avengers: Endgame, Bucky appeared in the series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier as well as What If…?, and he is returning to the big screen in next year’s Thunderbolts*. Some fans have speculated that this may be the end of the road for Bucky Barnes, but Stan is weighing in on the MCU’s future, and he’s hoping to be a part of it, alongside the return of Robert Downey Jr..
During a recent interview with GQ, Stan expressed his hope to share a scene or two with Downey, and praised his co-star, saying:
"I hope I’m in a scene with him. Is there any other guy that could pull that off? I don’t know, probably not. After Tropic Thunder, is there anything that guy can’t do?"
Stan also praised Marvel, and defended the company in light of the criticism it has received in recent years from big name directors.
"I’ve never been part of a company that puts so much heart and thought into anything. I think if Marvel was gone, it’d be such a big hole to try and fill up. Don’t just go out there and shit on something without offering something better."
Stan is a dedicated and loyal actor who has turned out one great performance after another. I can’t wait to see him in Thunderbolts* in theaters on May 2nd, 2025, and hopefully in more Marvel movies in the future.
