Robert Downey Jr. Confirmed To Play Doctor Doom in AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY and AVENGERS: SECRET WARS
It was just confirmed at Comic-Con that Robert Downey Jr. is confirmed to play Doctor Doom in Marvel’s next two Avengers films, Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars!
This casting was rumored about a week ago, but it was so unbelievable that no one believed it. Well, it is 100% true and the crowd in Hall H went freakin’ nuts over the news!
Downey even showed up at Comic-Con dressed up as Doom for the big announcement, saying, “I told you I like playing complicated characters.”
It was also announced that Joe and Anthony Russo would return to direct these Avengers movies, which is also incredible news!
This is so wild! The initial report said that Downey Jr. could return in a future Avengers movie as a Stark Variant and that he will ultimately transform into Doctor Doom. I’m not sure if that’s the direction they are going, but Downey Jr. is definitely Doom.
Interestingly, Downey Jr. auditioned to play Doctor Doom in 20th Century Fox's Fantastic Four movie before he landed the role of Tony Stark in Iron Man.
When previously talking about his potential return, the actor seemed very open to the idea, saying: "It’s just crazily in my DNA. Probably the most like-me character I’ve ever played, even though he’s way cooler than I am. I’ve become surprisingly open-minded to the idea.”
This is amazing and I’m still reeling from the news as I sit here writing this in Hall H! Wow!
