Marvel Studios "Blocked" Josh Brolin’s Cable From Appearing in DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE
Marvel Studios’ Deadpool & Wolverine brought a wave of excitement with its return of beloved characters from Fox’s X-Men universe. However, one glaring omission was Josh Brolin’s Cable.
Cable was pivotal character introduced in Deadpool 2. Despite the film’s heavy use of multiverse antics and nostalgic callbacks, Cable was nowhere to be seen, and according to Deadpool co-creator Rob Liefeld, this was no accident.
In a blunt statement on X, Liefeld accused Marvel Studios of actively preventing Cable’s inclusion in the movie. He wrote: “Shouldn’t have blocked him from Deadpool & Wolverine. All time boner move.”
The comment set off a storm of speculation among fans, especially given Cable’s prominent role in the Deadpool franchise.
Josh Brolin had hinted at his absence in the movie prior to its release confirming that he likely wouldn’t appear in the third installment. While no official explanation has been provided, Liefeld’s comments suggest members of the creative team didn’t want him involved.
Deadpool & Wolverine didn’t completely ignore Cable. The film included two sly references to the character. In one scene, Deadpool tells Happy Hogan, “The X-Force team didn’t test well in the focus group, particularly Cable.”
Later, while joking with Mr. Paradox, he said: “Is this because I used Cable’s time machine?” Which was a nod to the infamous Deadpool 2 post-credits scene.
Regardless of his absence in Deadpool & Wolverine, Brolin has expressed excitement about working with Marvel again. He has said he’d be open to “anything that the Russos wanted me to do,” fueling rumors about his potential return in upcoming MCU projects.
Brolin also previously said of Deadpool & Wolverine, "I so wanted to be in that movie.” He added: “Cable was a lot of fun. I really liked doing that role. That was a lot of fun."
With Joe and Anthony Russo directing Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, speculation has centered on whether Brolin might reprise his role as Thanos or even make a surprise comeback as Cable.
For now, the future of Brolin’s Marvel involvement is up in the air and fans will have to wait to see if Marvel Studios has future plans to bring him back.
