Marvel Studios Executive Shuts Down T’Challa Recasting Rumors

If you’ve been wondering if Marvel Studios is actually going to recast T’Challa in the MCU as previously rumored, those rumors have now been put to rest.

Over the past month, there have been reprots from high profile insiders that Marvel was looking to find a new actor to take over the mantle of Black Panther after Chadwick Boseman’s tragic passing.

Naturally, fans had a lot to say, with some welcoming the idea and others insisting that T’Challa’s son should carry the legacy forward.

But according to an executive at Marvel Studios, none of that is happening—at least, not anytime soon.

ComicBook recently caught up with Nate Moore, Marvel Studios’ VP of Production & Development, while he was promoting Captain America: Brave New World.

When asked directly about the T’Challa recasting rumors, Moore said: “The truth is, there’s no truth to those rumors. Never say never to anything, we haven’t really had a lot of creative conversations with Ryan Coogler yet, because he’s finishing his film Sinners, which comes out this year.

He added: “We’ll get into it later this year, but everything you read online is not true, if for no other reason than we just haven’t started [working on it].”

So, the creative team at Marvel haven’t even begun discussions about the future of Black Panther with Coogler. It’s clear that if anything is in the works, it’s still far down the road.

Moore also hinted that Captain America: Brave New World could lay the groundwork for Black Panther 3, specifically in how Wakanda reacts to the arrival of Adamantium in the MCU.

“I’m sure Wakanda will have an opinion about the arrival of Adamantium. And I’m sure Wakanda had an opinion on Sam Wilson as Captain America.

“Clearly, they seem to support him, as they’ve given him some technology to help him out. But Wakanda isn’t in the best graces with the U.S. government, so there’s a possibility for conflict in a lot of different ways.

“I think Wakanda, to me, gets to play in the same political thriller sandbox as Captain America because it does deal with globalization and global politics, so anything is possible.”

While Black Panther 3 is far from being made, Marvel is already thinking about where Wakanda fits into the larger MCU landscape. Also, we know that Denzel Washington has been cast in the next Black Panther film. So, we do know there is some movement of the film’s development.

For now, though, any rumors about a new T’Challa are just that… rumors.
