Marvel Studios Is Currently Going Through a "Creative Retooling"; Can They Get Their Mojo Back?
Marvel Studios has had some pretty big misses in recent years, and with the way things have been going, it’s not hard to imagine that Kevin Feige is trying to figure out how to get these Marvel projects back on track and get fans excited again to go watch these movies on the big screen.
THR is reporting that Marvel Studios is currently undergoing a “creative retooling.” They are looking to shake things up after the box office disappointments that they’ve had. While some fans wondered if Marvel would do some kind of soft reboot with Deadpool 3 coming, the plan is actually this retooling of the MCU.
There’s no clear explanation of what this “creative retooling” might be, but Disney CEO Bob Iger said on an earnings call earlier this month that Marvel is planning to reduce the number of movies and television series it puts out on a yearly basis.
Iger said: “Some of our studios lost a little focus. So the first step that we’ve taken is that we’ve reduced volume. We’ve reduced output, particularly at Marvel [to ensure] the films you’re making can be even better.”
The only Marvel movie that is being released in 2024 is Deadpool & Wolverine, and that movie is going to be a massive hit. This is such a popular character and according to a previous report, Feige loved what he’s seen of the film and it looking to possibly incorporate the character into other Marvel movies.
The Fantastic 4 has also been getting a lot of buzz recently, but I think a lot of fans would’ve been a lot more excited about it had the movie been announced when superhero fatigue wasn’t in full swing.
There are also only two Disney+ series that are currently planning to release this year, Echo was already released, and the next one is Agatha: Darkhold Diaries.
There are currently four Marvel movies scheduled to release in 2025, and those include Captain America: Brave New World, The Fantastic Four, Thunderbolts, and Blade. But that might change and some of these movies may be pushed out to 2026.
I would love nothing more than for Marvel Studios to get their mojo back! It will be interesting to see how they attempt to do that, and if it will actually work and get fans excited about these movies again.
