Marvel Studios' Kevin Feige Explains They Are Taking a "Big Swing" with DEADPOOL 3
One of Marvel’s most anticipated films is director Shawn Levy and Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool 3, but no information was revealed about it at Comic-Con. Maybe it will be placed in one of those several empty spots in Phase 6 between Fantastic Four and the two Avengers films, The Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars.
During a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Feige revealed that like all of their third films, Deadpool 3 will take a "big swing." He said, "How do we elevate it in the way we've been able to with Civil War, and Infinity War and Ragnarok? It's very fun to be in the world of the Ryan Reynolds show."
Yeah, I imagine that must be a blast! Reynolds said: "I really had a crash course in the value of marketing and storytelling in this context through Deadpool. Deadpool taught me that necessity is the mother of invention. Deadpool, the franchise, never had the kind of budgets and finances to work with that some of the larger comic book properties did. Two of the greatest adversaries to creativity is too much time and too much money. I learned the value of character over spectacle through Deadpool."
Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick have been working on the script for the film, and they’ve enjoyed the support and creative freedom that Marvel Studios and Disney have given to them. Reese previously talked about that, saying: "It's almost like putting on a comfy old sweater. Marvel's really given us the support to maintain the tone and the vision that we have for it. They've been very hands-off and supportive, but they've also let us do what we do. So really, it's just been fun. We're mad scientists back in the laboratory again. Deadpool is our favorite who will always be the character I think we're most associated with, and we're very grateful for being allowed to write him again. So it's a blast. It's like going back to school again after having summer off. It's pretty fun."
When talking about the support they’ve received from Marvel and Disney, Reese said: "Don't worry about that, they've been very supportive with regard to that. Now when it comes to a particular joke, if we cross a line, maybe we'll hear at some point, 'Maybe not that joke.' But I think they've been incredibly supportive of what we're doing, because obviously we were doing it separate from them for a long time, and I think they've seen the success and they've had their own even greater success. So hopefully it'll be a marriage made in heaven. But we've definitely got their support, and that's a great thing to feel."
As for the story, we don’t have any details, but Reese shared that it will be a "fish-out-of-water story." He explained: "It’s a wonderful opportunity for fish-out-of-water. Deadpool is a lunatic at the center of a movie. Usually, the lunatics are the supporting characters and the protagonist is reasonably sane and our movie's flipped. To drop a lunatic into a very sane world, it’s straight butter. It’s going to be really fun."
This third Deadpool movie is going to be wicked awesome.
