Marvel's AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY Reportedly May Be Delayed So Marvel Can Figure Out What Characters Will Be Involved
Marvel Studios is supposed to begin filming Avengers: Doomsday this April, with the film currently slated for release in May 2026. But if a new report is to be believed, that timeline may not be as locked in.
On The Hot Mic, Jeff Sneider shared some behind-the-scenes rumblings that suggest the film’s release could be pushed back.
Sneider revealed: “I heard a rumor that Doomsday might push. I think that the release date could push to the next slot... they don’t know who’s in the movie, that’s what I heard.”
That’s a pretty surprising claim for a film that’s just a couple of months away from shooting, but Sneider elaborated, saying:
“I heard, ‘We still don’t know who’s ultimately going to be in this movie and who’s not. We don’t know who’s going to be available.’ I think they’re still figuring out what that ensemble looks like.”
If Doomsday does get delayed, the next available slot would be November 6, 2026. But since the studio has now opted to shoot Doomsday and Secret Wars back-to-back, the pressure is on to make sure everything stays on track.
In a previous interview, Joe Russo talked about their approach, saying: "I think we're always looking for new phases. There's always new stories to tell. I think these movies are going to be a surprise to people. We found a way into the story that's very exciting for us but, we think, very radical. I think it's going to challenge audiences."
For now, this is a rumor and nothing is officially confirmed. But if Marvel is still sorting out its cast this late in the game, a delay might not be the worst thing, especially if it means getting everything in order for what’s supposed to be the next big Avengers event.
