Marvel's BLADE Movie Starring Mahershala Ali Will Be Part of Phase 5

This weekend Marvel Studios revealed their epic lineup of films and TV shows that would make up the fourth phase of the MCU. The announcements got the fan super excited for the future of the franchise, and one of the big surprise reveals of the event was when Blade was announced with Green Book star Mahershala Ali set to play the character!

While most movies announced that night would be a part of Phase 4, Kevin Feige confirmed in an interview with Collider that there could be changes.

“It is the complete Phase Four the way I announced the complete Phase Three five years ago—things can move, things can change as they did if you go back and look at what we talked about five years ago for Phase Three, but we’ve been working on this for quite a while and it’s pretty set. But there are always changes possible.”

He then went on to clarify that Blade would be a part of Phase 5, not Phase 4. That means when the film is released it probably won’t happen until sometime in 2022 at the earliest.

I’m excited for Blade! I’ve always loved the character, and it’ll be cool to see what Marvel has planned for him. A lot of fans are wondering if the movie will go the R-rated route, but I think they’ll end up sticking with the PG-13 branding.

Blade was created by writer Marv Wolfman and artist Gene Colan, and he made his first appearance in the comic book The Tomb of Dracula #10 in July of 1973. Wesley Snipes played him in the previous films that were made, but I think Ali is a great choice to take on the role next!
