Marvel's CAPTAIN MARVEL 2 Will Be Helmed by CANDYMAN Director Nia DaCosta
The director of the Jordan Peele-produced Candyman reboot, Nia DaCosta, just landed her biggest directing gig yet with Marvel Studios! She will helm the sequel to Captain Marvel.
Marvel and Disney must have liked what she did with Candyman as well as her pitch for the sequel to offer her the gig. She will take over from Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, who directed the first film, which ended up being massive box office success.
It’s explained that while the studio met with several individuals, “DaCosta seemed to have the edge for some time even as she and others met with Marvel chief Kevin Feige over the weekend.” DaCosta will direct the film from a script written by WandaVision scribe Megan McDonnell, and of course, Brie Larson is set to return to star in the film.
We don’t have any concrete details to share with you regarding the story, but it’s been rumored that the will be heavily inspired by the Secret Invasion comic book storyline. It’s also been reported that Ms. Marvel might appear in the film and that it will “also include many important MCU characters,” with the film being described as a "mini-Avengers film."
I haven’t seen anything that DCosta has directed yet, she also made an indie film titled Little Woods, which is what kickstarted her career. With Marvel guiding the story and the production of the film, I’m sure DaCosta will deliver a fine and entertaining sequel.
I know a lot of Marvel fans don’t care for how Captain Marvel has been handled in the MCU, but hopefully, they have some fun with the character in the sequel.
