Marvel's ECHO Series Was Such a Mess Kevin Feige Thought It Was Unreleasable Prior to Reshooting the Entire Thing

Update: A representative from Disney recently reached out to me to tell me that there is no truth to these reports that have been reported by entertainment scooper Jeff Sneider.

Here are the rumors making the rounds:

Disney+ recently announced the release date for its upcoming Marvel series Echo and that all of the episodes for that series will be released at once. This news came after reports that the project had been going through some pretty heavy production issues.

There was a point when I was hearing that the series might actually be canceled. That’s obviously not the case, but according to a new report, the production was such a big mess and Kevin Feige thought the series was “unreleasable” for some time. But the managed to salvage what they had with reshoots.

In the latest episode of The Hot Mic Podcast, entertainment scooper Jeff Sneider says that sources close to him said the series was “plagued by issues” during its production, and Feige was not happy with it and they basically had to reshoot the whole thing! Here’s what Sneider said:

“I heard the show was kind of plagued by issues throughout production. I heard that it was a mess, and that the show came in so bad that they basically had to reshoot the entire thing. I’m told that they originally shot 8 episodes, and [Kevin Feige] thought it was unreleasable, so they talked about cutting it down to 4 episodes, or 6 in post. But then they ended up reshooting it, so my source did not actually know how many episodes they wound up with. But yeah, apparently it needed a top-down rejiggering, and that Kevin was not happy with it.”

That sounds like it must’ve been a nightmare of a situation for Feige to deal with! While I’m happy that got through the madness of it, I imagine that Marvel isn’t confident in the series, which is what they are dumping all of the episodes on Disney+ at once. I was actually looking forward to this series, but we’ll just have to wait and see how the project turned out in the end.

In the series, "the origin story of Echo revisits Maya Lopez, whose ruthless behavior in New York City catches up with her in her hometown. She must face her past, reconnect with her Native American roots and embrace the meaning of family and community if she ever hopes to move forward."

Echo is being developed by Etan Cohen and Emily Cohen, who are writers and executive producers on the show. The series stars Alaqua Cox, Charlie Cox, Vincent D'Onofrio, Zahn McClarnon, Chaske Spencer, Tantoo Cardinal, Cody Lightning, Devery Jacobs, and Graham Greene.
