Marvel's MARVEL ZOMBIES Animated Series Sees Iman Vellani's Kamala Khan at the Center of the Story

A couple of years ago it was announced that Marvel Studios was developing a Marvel Zombies animated series. This project is said to be inspired by the Marvel Comics limited series run written by Robert Kirkman with art by Sean Phillips that launched in late 2005, but the series will take place within the alternate reality shown in What If…? Season 1.

The Marvels star Iman Vellani has recently confirmed that she will be reprising her role as Kamala Khan, aka Ms. Marvel, in the series, and her character will be at the heart of the show.

During an interview with The Direct, Vellani talked about the series, saying: “We’ve done the whole thing. It was amazing. It was so much fun. And I love—there are a lot of cool characters in the Marvel Zombies show. And Kamala is kind of the center of the show.”

Vellani referenced The Lord of the Rings while talking about the series to explain Kamala’s role, saying, “They described it to me, it’s like, ‘She’s basically the Frodo of the story.’ And I was like, ‘That’s amazing.'”

The actress goes on to tease the ensemble cast of characters, saying: “And I get to interact and meet all these people along her journey. And, yes, they’re only the voices, and I don’t get to hear their voices in real time. But just, it’s my fantasies, right? Like, knowing Kamala is going to interact with some really cool people, even if it’s just animation, is so special in a lot of ways.”

This sounds like it’s going to be a fun show, and as a fan of Ms. Marvel, I’m curious to see how her story arc is going to play out in the series.
