Marvel's THE NEW MUTANTS Will Be PG-13 and It Was Never Going to Be Rated R
During director Josh Boone’s long road to getting The New Mutants on the big screen, there have been a lot of rumors and speculation regarding the film and the reshoots. At one point, there were rumors that the film would be rated R. Well, that’s not the case.
The filmmaker confirmed that the film will be PG-13, and says that there was never going to be a rated R version of the film. The director cleared things up on Twitter, saying, “The movie has always been and always will be PG-13. There was never a plan for an R-rated movie.”
For me, the rating for a film doesn’t really matter. What matters is that the story is good! The rating has nothing to do with how good a movie is going to be. It amazes me how many people out there don’t seem to understand that simple concept. I love what I’ve seen from the movie so far and I hope that the story it tells ends up being great!
The New Mutants is an original horror thriller set in “an isolated hospital where a group of young mutants is being held for psychiatric monitoring. When strange occurrences begin to take place, both their new mutant abilities and their friendships will be tested as they battle to try and make it out alive.” This place that the mutants are in is not a hospital. It takes their greatest fear and makes them live through it until it kills them.
The cast for the film includes Anya Taylor-Joy as Magik, Charlie Heaton as Cannonball, Maisie Williams as Wolfsbane, Henry Zaga as Sunspot, and Blu Hunt as fallen Mirage.
The film is set to be released on April 3rd, 2020. In case you missed it, you can watch the most recent trailer here.
