Marvel's WEREWOLF BY NIGHT Director Offers Update on Sequel: "We'll Get There"
Werewolf By Night was such a great project for Marvel Studios, and it ushered in the whole supernatural monster element of the MCU. Unfortunately, Marvel has dropped the ball and they haven’t made any follow-up horror/monster projects.
The black-and-white Halloween Special really paid homage to the classic monster movies of the 1940s and 50s with its noirish style, dark and creepy atmosphere and heightened levels of terror.
There was so much to play with here and Marvel still has yet to jump back into this monster-filled sandbox. I’ve been eagerly waiting for Marvcl to follow that up with another Halloween special, and according to director Michael Giacchino, it will eventually happen.
While a guest on Brandon Davis’ YouTube show, Giacchino offered an update, saying: "There's been a lot going on in the industry and everyone sort of recalibrating. I think certain things had to be just put aside for the moment. We'll get there.”
When previously talking about a possible follow-up, Giacchino said: “There’s always talk. But, you know, until somebody decides to spend a penny, nothing happens yet.
“So, hopefully. My wish is that, yes, there will be more with these characters. I would love to, and I have ideas of what I would love to do with them, and it’s all crazy and nuts, but I think that’s the only way to go about it. So, hopefully, one day. Hopefully, one day.”
Fingers crossed that it eventually happens! It’d be a shame if Marvel didn’t do anything more with this horror monster corner of the universe.
